Mission
The mission of the Duluth Playhouse is to offer exceptional entertainment, training, and performance opportunities in theater arts that may inspire, challenge, and engage the region we serve.
History
Founded in 1914, this playhouse is one of the nation’s oldest community theaters and produces a year-round season of dramas, musicals, and children’s productions.
NEW THEATER AT THE DEPOT
In May 1977, the
Duluth Playhouse moved into another new space at the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center, better known as The Depot, at 506 West Michigan Street. This beautiful 282-seat theater was designed with continental seating with generous space between the rows and excellent sightlines from every seat. The Green Room, dressing rooms, costume and props storerooms, and a substitute rehearsal space are all on the lower level. The Playhouse season expanded to seven mainstage shows plus a children’s production.

Embark on a Monumental Season With Us!
We’ve filled our new 2012-2013 season with monumental works, brilliant soloists, a taste of the unfamiliar, and some very special events. Soloists include American pianist William Wolfram and our own superstar concertmaster, Erin Aldridge. Our superb chorus will be featured in Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah and in Beethoven’s titanic Missa Solemnis.
As a very special treat, this season includes a tribute to Henry Fogel, whose 70th birthday we will be celebrating with a work by Osvaldo Golijov, written in Henry’s honor. Mr. Fogel is widely recognized as the leader of the American orchestral world, and a man who has helped the DSSO enormously.
Markand Thakar will be conducting the DSSO in his final season as Music Director. Our audiences will also have the pleasure of hearing concerts conducted by the DSSO’s new music director designate. An exciting season, to be sure, and we look forward to having you with us!

The Hibbing Jubilee
The Hibbing Area Chamber of Commerce has all the information on upcoming events in the Hibbing area. Dylan Days is one of the most popular events they sponsor in the area, supporting and honoring the arts of Bob Dylan. Another popular event is The Hibbing Jubilee, which includes a grand parade, multi-stage street dance, and arts, crafts, and food vendors.
